Project Overview

Project Overview

Cement Depot Nigeria Ltd is a digital intermediary platform that connects cement manufacturers with end customers across Nigeria. The platform streamlines the full cycle of cement distribution, from online ordering and payment processing to logistics coordination and real-time delivery tracking.

The business model supports two fulfillment modes: direct factory delivery for bulk orders, and warehouse pickup for smaller purchases, reflecting the diverse needs of individual buyers, retailers, and contractors operating at different scales.

The Challenge

The Challenge

Nigeria's cement distribution industry operates largely through manual, fragmented channels. Buyers rely on phone calls or physical visits to place orders, with no visibility into stock availability, pricing consistency, or delivery timelines. On the operational side, order management, fleet coordination, and inventory control are handled through disconnected systems, creating bottlenecks that slow fulfillment and limit business scalability.

The core challenge was designing a platform that addressed both sides of this gap simultaneously: a seamless purchasing experience for customers, and a capable operational tool for sellers and logistics teams, all within a mobile-first environment.

Project Objective

Project Objective
  1. Simplify cement purchasing for individuals and retailers through a clear, low-friction mobile ordering flow

  2. Provide operators and sellers with the tools to manage orders, inventory, and deliveries from a single interface

  3. Communicate the platform's value clearly on the landing page to convert first-time visitors into registered users

  4. Ensure visual and interaction consistency across all three surfaces despite their distinct user roles and contexts

Design Process
  1. Brief Interpretation & IA The engagement began with a thorough reading of the client brief to map out the platform's core user roles, key workflows, and data relationships. I structured an information architecture for each surface before moving into visual design, ensuring the navigation logic was grounded in actual user needs rather than assumed feature lists.

  2. User Flow Mapping For each role, I mapped primary user flows, the customer's ordering journey from product discovery to delivery confirmation, and the operator's workflow from receiving an order to dispatching a truck. These flows served as the structural backbone for screen-level design decisions.

  3. Component-Based UI Design High-fidelity screens were built in Figma using a consistent component system shared across both mobile apps. This ensured visual coherence while accommodating the different functional requirements of each role. The landing page was designed independently with desktop-first proportions, adapting the same visual language to a marketing context.

  4. Handoff Final deliverables included annotated Figma files with component documentation, variables, and protyping. Structured for a clean developer handoff.

Outcome

The final delivery comprised three fully designed surfaces: a customer mobile app, an operator/seller mobile app, and a marketing landing page. All aligned to a single visual system and handed off to the client's development team for implementation.

1. Discover Product, Order, and Checkout for Customer

1. Discover Product, Order, and Checkout for Customer

The main flow of the customer role is to prioritize the process of easily and efficiently discovering cement products according to the brand they are looking for. Users can add to cart, select a shipping method, or pick up the order at the depot with proof of order.

2. Discover Depot and Order Tracking for Customer

2. Discover Depot and Order Tracking for Customer

Another key features for customers is the ability to explore depots using a map view or a list card. View depot details containing cement products from various brands. They can also monitor their order progress in detail without worry.

3. Analytics, Chat, Depot, Product, and Route Management for Seller

3. Analytics, Chat, Depot, Product, and Route Management for Seller

The key features for the depot sales/operational role are providing them with sales analytics insights, product performance analytics, chat features to interact with customers, and depot management down to routes.

4. Order Management for Seller

4. Order Management for Seller

Among the key features, this is one essential feature that shouldn't be missed, Order Management: Sellers can monitor customer orders for both delivery and depot pickup.

5. Landing Page for Marketing

5. Landing Page for Marketing

The final touch was that the client asked me to design a landing page for their marketing needs. The information structure I created was Hero, Contractor, Problem-Solution, Key Features, How Cement Depot Works, Partners, Testimonials, and CTA.
